As a teacher, I have always understood that people learn through different modalities of presenting information. For instance, there are those that learn through hearing. They may learn best by lectures. Some learn through hands on, labs may be the method that they learn best from. I never really thought about how that could apply to worship. Though recently, we were discussing a meeting and somebody mentioned that everybody opens up their hearts to God at different times in the service. Suddenly, I realized that this is the same as modalities in teaching. Everybody enters the presence of God at different times.
God is omnipresent. That is, he is everywhere. We are not trying to “bring” God’s presence into the sanctuary. God’s presence is already there. We need to prepare our hearts and put ourselves into his presence. When we come into church, we are burdened with everything that life has “dragged” us through for the last week. That may be family troubles, financial troubles, work troubles, or personal problems. We need to shed all of those burdens and take our focus off of ourselves and onto God. A person who is really into the worship aspect may show up to church ready to get right into God’s presence once the music starts. There are individuals that are not that “big” in music (as musician I always tend to forget that). They still can gain from worship, it may soften their hearts and help shed those things that have bothered them. They may find the Pastor’s message as the means to which their hearts could be opened to be in Christ’s presence. In essence, God created everybody different and He has His own personal way to be with you. So if worship works for you, great! If not just let God speak to you during worship, focus on him to prepare yourselves for His Word. Remember, you do not have to jump, dance, or roll on the floor to be in the presence of God, He is already there. Just prepare yourselves to meet with him in your way. Our God is a jealous God, he does not want to share you with the worries and the troubles you have from life. He wants to free you of them so you can become closer to him, to free you so you can do what you were created to do…….give Him glory and praise and proclaim him as Holy of Holies, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, for He will reign forever and ever. Amen
God Bless and see you Sunday
